Gardening again after the destruction by Hagupit

damaged agriculture
damaged agriculture

Dear All Friends,

Greetings from Leyte and a very Merry Christmas to all. May I report that Typhoon Hagupit also called Ruby did extensive damage to the vegetable gardens of Typhoon Haiyan survivors the first week of this month. the good thing is that backyard vegetable gardens is easy to raise and do and we have a surplus of vegetable seeds from our vegetable seed production areas located in Mahayahay, Ormoc City and Talisayan, Albuera, Leyte. Immediately after the typhoon struck we were able to distribute a total of 3,400 seed packets and 350 sacks of organic fertilizer. We are making our own organic fertilizer coming from animal manure and organic material in the nearby farms. In 2-3 weeks time, some of the the vegetables will mature already bringing food to the table of local residents.

Hoping for your continuing support to this very important initiative. We are mobilizing local survivors as barefoot garden technicians training their neighbors and the approach works because they are known to the community and can integrate well.

Again thank you very much.

Very sincerely yours,

Cora

Readying for next year's toilet implementation

Dear All Friends,

My warmest greetings as we close this year 2014. It is a continuing awesome journey for us as we touched so many lives in our implementation of low-cost toilets for Typhoon Haiyan survivors. We got very scared the first week of this month with the news of another super-typhoon called Typhoon Hagupit but thank God it did not hit us squarely and damage especially to the toilets and homes that we have built is small. There are still so many survivors here without toilets and as the year ends, we continue to pre-fabricate the toilets as well as refine our toilet bowls so that it becomes shiny and smooth and nice for the users. To end this year, we will distribute 50 complete toilets and 150 toilet bowl to local residents located in Albuera, Leyte by December 29, 2014. Then for this year, our total number of toilets distributed is 1,235 new toilets and repairs of 2,400. We were able to distribute also a total of 4,230 hygiene kits comprising soap and toothbrush. We hope to continue aiming for higher distribution numbers by this year. Recovery afte Typhoon Haiyan will take long as the devastation was massive.

Hoping for your continuing support to our cause.

hope that you will inform your colleague and friends about our work here.

A very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.

Very sincerely yours,

Cora

Starting to support students to college

Aprylin with her family
Aprylin with her family

Dear All Friends,

Greetings from Leyte. Our project to support students affected by Typhoon Haiyan go to college is on to a good start. We are selecting the very poor but bright students continue with their schooling. We are coordinating with barrio officials of hardest-hit communities in order to do this. Then we check the previous school records of the selected students to determine their elegibility. A semester tuition in a state college here average 9,000 pesos or about 200 USD. This support will be a lifetime legacy for the student here.

Again many thanks my friends for your support. Hope you will inform your friends about this worthy project. The link is,
