UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Mia Farrow visits the Sahel

UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Mia Farrow was recently in Chad to highlight the unfolding crisis in the Sahel region, where an estimated 1 million children under the age of 5 are expected to suffer from severe acute malnutrition over the coming weeks and months. Some 127,000 children in Chad alone are at risk of experiencing this potentially deadly, but entirely preventable, condition.

Click on the links below to see a new video and article about Mia Farrow's visit, posted by UNICEF.

In the video, at the 2-minute mark, you will see that the red and white boxes of Plumpy'nut delivered to these children by UNICEF came from Edesia's factory in Providence, Rhode Island. We are so proud to be UNICEF's partner in this fight against severe acute malnutrition.

We are equally proud to have you as our supporter. Thank you for giving to this project, and for sharing it with your friends, so that we can keep the supplies of lifesaving Plumpy'nut to Chad flowing.

Compelling blog from the DR Congo

This morning I read a new blog written by Dr. Chris Bird of Doctors without Borders, which I thought might be of interest to you as well. Dr. Bird is currently working in the DR Congo, and as you will read, before becoming a doctor, Dr. Bird was a journalist - making this a very compelling read. The link to his blog is below.

Doctors without Borders incorporates ready-to-use therapeutic foods, such as Plumpy'nut, into their therapeutic feeding programs to save the lives of children who are suffering from severe acute malnutrition, a very dangerous condition. In the DR Congo, Edesia has partnered with the humanitarian aid agency, Action Against Hunger, to deliver livesaving Plumpy'nut to thousands of vulnerable children.

Nourished children dramatically strengthen families, communities, and entire countries - which is why your continued support of this project to get Plumpy'nut into the hands of more children in the DR Congo gives us so much hope.

Thank you.

Plumpy'nut brings life and hope to children

Dear Friends,

Tonight at 10 PM ET, you may be interested to tune in as ABC wraps up their 2011 coverage of the world's most pressing health issues in “Making Life: A Risky Proposition,” a 20/20 Special with Diane Sawyer.

The ABC producers alerted us today that the special will include a follow-up segment on Edesia's project in the Horn of Africa that provided relief for famine victims - to which you have contributed so generously.

From all of us at the Edesia factory in Providence, Rhode Island, we extend our gratitude and appreciation to you. Your compassion and caring for the starving children in the Horn of Africa inspires us every day.

Thank you.
