How we source and distribute food: We receive donated food from growers, processors, wholesalers and retailers, community food drives and government programs via USDA allocations. We supplement these with purchased foods like eggs, dairy, and lean protein. To distribute food, Second Harvest serves as a hub for 300+ partner agencies. We distribute nutritious groceries at drive-thru sites, walk-up sites, and home deliveries. Partners include schools, colleges, community centers, pantries, soup kitchens, and shelters. Additional Multi-lingual Services: Nutrition Education (virtual, in-person sessions will reopen in FY22); Toll-free hotline connecting callers to free food programs; CalFresh enrollments. We also connect people to federal nutrition programs and other food resources, and advocate for anti-hunger policies on local, state, national levels. A $1 donation provides enough food for two nutritious meals. With well-established programs and food distribution sites, excellent partnerships with other nonprofits including soup kitchens, pantries, shelters, community centers, Pre-K-12 schools, colleges, medical clinics and senior centers, affordable housing complexes and dedicated staff and volunteers, we are able to achieve and sustain continued success in providing food to anyone who needs it.
