Programs

Samaritan Mission School is a quality English medium school providing education from Nursery to Class VIII accommodating more than 1260 boys and girls of the local population against a very nominal fee. Most of them come from a very impoverished background such as children of rickshaw-pullers, drug-addicts and also children whose fathers are in jail. Moreover SHM is running their After-School Teaching Program in which students of SHM and of other local schools are provided with free tuition in the evening. Computer Literacy Program: Since 2008 almost 4,000 poor students of the Tikiapara slum have undergone basic computer training through this program who can claim them as computer literate. Vocational Training Program for Girls and Women: SHM is providing training and creating employment opportunity directly and indirectly to more than 5000 poor families since 2005 by the means of tailoring and zardousi training and also providing with scope of work to the women and girls of the local community. Samaritan Health Centre: SHM is providing health care facilities to the local slum-dwellers. Since 2009 near about 1200 poor elderly people have undergone cataract operation free of cost and more than 70000 patients have been treated annually by the eligible doctors of two health centres of SHM, one at Tikiapara and one at Bankra. Other than that, Narayana Nethralaya, a unit of Narayana Hrudalaya of Dr. Devi Shetty, has come forward to collaborate with SHM's Health Project. Cataract Operation Program is going on with full colours and spectacles are distributed to the deserving patients.
