Empowering Agriculture and Environmental Projects Staff For Greater Impact in the South West Region

Our Vegetable Grdens and Improved Nutrition project in Primary Schools and Farmers group in rural Buea received a boaster with a one week capacity building by WWF in Kumba, South West Region, Cameroon.

We were schooled on Mananging agricuture and environmental projects with little support for greater impacts.The training was later passed on to Social Development International office and field staff on the effective and efficient use of resources for greaater impacts.

The trainings emphase on Socio-economic analysis of agriculture/enviroment communities, Strategic planning, Office Administartion,  Financial management etc.

The training thus will enhance our agriculture and environmantal capacities to effectively and efficiently run agriculture and conservation projects in the South West Region.

Our schools garden are now ready to start the rainy seasons activities, farms are now cleared to kick start planting corn, beans, okra,tomatoes and potatoes etc.

Women Empowering Women on Health Issues on March 8, 2014 in Buea, South West Region, Cameroon

Social Development International (SODEIT) took part in the march 8th, 2014 celebrations – INternational Women's Day in Buea by distributing some 200 flyers carrying messages on HIV, Adolescent Reproductive Health and Teenage Pregnancies in Cameroon. This distribution was done by some SODEIT staff, some Teenage mothers and Adolescent girls of Bonduma and Bolifamba. During the match-pass which was part of the activities marking the March 8th celebrations in Buea, SODEIT participated in the match-pass with some staff of the organization and the Teenage Mothers’ Institute (TMI) was represented by fifteen teens from Bolifamba, Bonduma and a lady who admired the organization and decided to part-take in the match-pass with SODEIT.

In the course of the match-pass, the organization march with placards carrying messages of the theme of the celebration which was ‘Implementations and challenges Of Millennium Development Goals For Women’. The messages included: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, Achieve universal primary education, Promote gender equality and empower women, Reduce child mortality, Improve maternal health, Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases, Ensure environmental sustainability, Develop a global partnership for development.

In all, nineteen young girls and women took part in the match-pass which was a success. After the match-pass, more flyers were distributed to the population at the field. From the grand stand – Bongo square where the celebrations in Buea took place, SODEIT staff, teenage mothers and adolescent girls moved to the TMI for socialization. In the start of the celebrations at the institute, the Project Administrator – Okole opened the occasion with a word of prayer inviting the presence of the Holy Spirit in the midst of the celebration, followed by a word of welcome and thanks to the teens for their support and participation in SODEIT’s celebration of 8th March, 2014. as part of the activities and celebration of the day, food and drinks were given to all participants with the CEO of SODEIT being a part of the celebration and a male volunteer to the organization. The teens and staff expressed their joy of the day by dancing and singing at the TMI, after which transportation fare was distributed to the teens of Bolifamba and Bomduma by Okole on behalf of SODEIT.

Professional Housekeeping and Childcare Training

On January 25, 2014 in partnership with HELP OUT Cameroon, we started Marta Perrone Professional Housekeeping and Childcare Training in Tole Village, Cameroon. We started with four participants, hoping to train ten participant in Tole village alone before reaching out to other communities.

This program on housekeeping and childcare with adolescent girls and teenage mothers; is a three month training program to be carried out as followed:

• Two month training in Tole village with theory, tutorials, practical lessons, and video lessons;

• One month internship in a hospitality institution (hotel/child care center).

The program courses include laundry (ironing, washing, cloth folding).career development orientation, housekeeping (decoration, hygiene). Basic childcare, health safety, effective communication, protocol, settling family disputes, nutrition, hotel catering, cookery.

At the end of the training, the participants will sit in for an end of training examination, after which, they will be awarded attestations from Marta Perrone professional Housekeeping, USA.

This will enable the participants look for jobs in hospitality Institutions and or Open their own hospitality businesses to cater for  their livelihood and care for their family. Training one participant costs US$ 265.

The training of these future professional Housekeepers, mothers and, leaders of our community is a shared social responsibility; we cannot do it alone without your generous support.
