Mission

Vision: Creating a healthy generation of women Mission: To improve community reproductive health status in Bali, beginning with market communities, including prevention of wider spread of STDs and HIV/AIDS, prenatal care, family planning, early cancer detection and counselling. YRS is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation, founded in Bali in 1999. We provide quality health services, including clinical services on a donation basis and educational programming, with a particular focus on women's reproductive health at and for the traditional market community in Bali.

Programs

YRS initially conducted small-scale outreach work for AIDS prevention among risk groups, such as male migrant workers. In early 2003, YRS developed a plan to open a comprehensive Reproductive Health Centre (RHC) designed to be accessible for, and meet the needs of, low-income and vulnerable women in the general population in Bali. To maximise accessibility for women who are already lacking in time and money, Pasar Badung Market, in Bali's capital city Denpasar, was selected as the location. Not only is it Bali's largest traditional market and located in the centre of the capital city of Denpasar, but it is an active area of commerce almost 24 hours a day, a trading centre for the entire province of Bali. The target audience for the RHC is centred on vendors and assistant vendors, from the two market buildings and the surrounding areas, who mainly come from Bali, East Java, and other provinces. Client ability to pay for health services has remained consistently low, both confirming the great need for our program while also re-emphasising the inability for this program to rely on client payments to cover any substantial portion of program costs. Program Goals: Increase community knowledge about reproductive health, and encourage people to practice safer behaviour and to use health care services Improve community reproductive health with high-quality, accessible and affordable services Support women's empowerment and equality between men and women Clinic Services: Pap smear for cervical cancer screening STDs and reproductive tract infections examination, testing, treatment, and partner referral Prenatal care, including birth planning Contraception, condoms Referrals for further services or testing (including assistance as needed) Counselling on reproductive health & anatomy, STDs & HIV/AIDS, drugs, self breast exam, etc.) General health check
