End of the 2013/2014 School year

Stephan Matias - Slovak junior champion in Judo
Stephan Matias - Slovak junior champion in Judo

Dear Sir or Madam,

The 2013/2014 school year is nearing its end, and as every year, this is a milestone for our project. First of all we have had several boys and girls, or rather young men and women, who ended their high school education this year. All six of them, who had they closing exams as is mandatory in Slovakia, have passed and what is more, most of them achieved this with flying colors. For most of them, the next steps will be the exams for University, which will take place in the coming day - at the end of June, beginning of July. This year our young adults will be applying for university studies in Medicine, Chemistry and Pedagogy studies.

The second milestone, were the five new children we accepted into our scholarship program. After the application and selection procedure, we accepted four new boys and one girls of ages between 9 and 15, into our scholarship program. All of them are very talented and hard working students who bring home only the best grades. Four of our new kids are very musically gifted - three violinists, one flute player who wants to become a saxophone player; plus one very gifted artist, who will be starting art high school next year.

Over the summer we will be preparing ourselves for the next school year, including all the administrative work this requires. The highlight of our summer will be the summer academy for more than 30 children. They will have a week to work with professional artists and develop their personalities under the guidance of our tutors. The academy will take place from the 3rd to the 10th of August in Bratislava and will be topped by a public performance on the 9th, also in Bratislava. There our kids will have a chance to present their talents in workshops or performances. We are all looking forward to the event.

Your support makes all this and more possible. Thank you very much, we trully appriciate it.

New school year began!

Jan from Dive maky scholarship program
Jan from Dive maky scholarship program

In September all 67 children of Divé maky returned to their school duties. The new school year began. Some of them are still on elementary schools, but lot of them are studding secondary schools and 3 eldest are attending already Universities. One of them is Jan. He is 20 years old and he is studdying the second year at the University of Medicine. Divé maky started to support him when he was 16. He was talented cimball player and he dreamed to became doctor. One of only few Romany doctors in history of Slovakia. This level of education is for young people from Romany communities without support likely not reachable. But Jan did it! He is a lucky guy because he has a donor who is financing his studdies and Divé maky are giving him also support through regional tutor. You can read his profile here: http://www.divemaky.sk/clanok/397-jan-deme

But not all children of Divé maky have donors and their are still waiting for their chance. You can read their profiles here: http://www.divemaky.sk/deti/ .

Untill the end of the year we plan no workshops, we need to concentrate on adminstration of Divé maky scholarship program, tutoring and fundraising for the next year.

Thank you our dear donors for your support and Divé maky wish you Marry X-mas and Happy new year!
