GlobeMed at UChicago

Founded in 2010, GlobeMed at the University of Chicago is one of 50 branches of the wider GlobeMed organization, which partners college students with grassroots leaders worldwide to combat healthcare inequity. GlobeMed at UChicago works alongside the Asociacion de Personas Afectadas por Tuberculosis (ASPAT) in the poorest districts of Lima, Peru. ASPAT was founded in 2007 by former TB patients who knew from first-hand experience the discrimination and ignorance TB patients confront every day. Local Coordinator

The TB patients themselves play a large role in their recovery. GlobeMed and ASPAT encourage them to form communities led by patient volunteers, who encourage and support each other.

Patients at Seminar

Patients take the opportunities provided them very seriously. Although many are still in treatment and may feel ill, they take the time to educate themselves on nutrition, prevention, and TB safety.

Educational Seminars

One of the aims of GlobeMed at UChicago is to empower patients to take control of their own futures. ASPAT and GlobeMed work together to make sure patients receive basic educations about TB.
