Mission

The Haiti Health Trust, Inc. (THHT) exists to be a blessing to the struggling people of Haiti in areas related to health. Our projects seek to catalyze: - HOPE among the sick and disabled through improved medical, rehabilitation and respite care; - JOY for growing families through quality prenatal, delivery & post natal care; - CONFIDENCE among the healthy through educational and sports offerings; and - nationwide attitudinal change toward the disabled through interaction and engagement, sports-related and beyond. THHT also seeks to be capable stewards on behalf of those who fund the efforts, selecting projects led with diligence, integrity, and teamwork, and ensuring that 100% of funds reach the projects in Haiti (THHT Board and volunteers cover all US-based costs). THHT is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization based in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Programs

The need in Haiti is acute. The 2010 earthquake and ongoing cholera epidemic have exacerbated the grave situation for so many Haitians. Long after the media coverage fades, the survival struggle in Haiti continues. THHT was founded in response to the realization that there are existing, successful initiatives in Haiti that: are empowering and assisting sustainable Haitian-led change have the backing of Haiti's Ministry of Health could scale to more significant impact if additional funding were available to them. Subsequently, THHT is involved in supporting and contributing towards the development of a number of projects in North Haiti, specifically in and around Cap-Haitien (Haiti's second largest city.) Community projects include supporting a Haitian led community based running club, which seeks to empower young people, and use sport to bring about positive, grass root change in individuals and communities. Other programs supported include a primary health clinic, which provides support for about 300 patients per week, offering a range of medical services including Pediatric, OBGYN, Internal Medicine, Emergency and General care. This facility also works with the Ministry of Health in Haiti supporting a vaccination and nutritional program. Associated with this program is a 24/7 emergency Ambulance service. THHT also actively partners with other NGO's to fulfill the needs of a number of other health related projects. These include supporting the development of pediatric care in North Haiti through the support of a pediatric and neo-natal unit at a Ministry of Health registered facility, which has a 7 bed neo-natal ward and 16 bed pediatric unit. Aside from financial support, we also support the up-keep and maintenance of critical equipment, the training of staff through US exchange visits, management training and administrative development in hospital staff. Seeking to overcome the stigma of disability in Haiti and support a more inclusive society with greater access to rehabilitation, THHT has also identified a number of facilities which require additional support in the area of disability care. This includes a center for children with disabilities which supports over 120 families, a rehabilitation unit in North Haiti, and an inclusive sports center which provides integrated training programs for people of all ages and abilities. The inclusive sports facility provides a range of sports including wheelchair tennis/tennis, wheelchair basketball/basketball, hand cycling, table tennis, boccia, and general health and fitness programs. As with our Pediatric support, aside from fundraising to support operational costs, we also support these programs through infrastructural improvements, like ward developments, construction of wells and accessible pathways, and provide training programs for Haiti staff. Our heart is to build the capacity of a Haitian led system, seeking to assist Haitian led change, and provide the means to capacity build proven projects. This includes assisting all projects with self-sustainability plans, and providing successful business teams to offer proven models and training to improve management structures.
