Fly The Phoenix

Fly the Phoenix believes that education, as well as daily food, are basic human rights. In order to combat the imbalances of these rights, we are creating sustainable, 25-year cycle, educational community programs. These are funded by our local income-initiatives, challenges and international donations through our registered charity, Fly The Phoenix.

Sustainable community plans empower children

Pick your cow parts!
Pick your cow parts!

GVI Ecuador project manager Tracey has come up with a great fundraising initiative for our sustainable community schemes.

Donations are used to purchase cows and guinea pig enclosures. The aim is to empower children by giving them an income stream to make sure that they are not excluded from education due to lack of funds. At the same time they learn a trade such as cheese and yogurt production or raising and selling Guinea Pigs.

The cows and guinea pig enclosures are expensive so to make this option available to more donors Tracey and her team have made artwork to value the different aspects of the cow and the value of a guinea pig and reached out to donors. By breaking a larger goal down it becomes more accessible and many of your have responded to this campaign with generous donations.

These plans are already working very well on the ground and we are very happy with the progress. News to follow soon.

Fence repair brings the community together

Community members help build the fence
Community members help build the fence

With the rainy season now at an end in Honduras, the school at San Rafael is having some general repairs done.  The priority and most important of these was to repair the fence surrounding the school.  The repairs were conducted by a couple of local workmen with help from some of the fathers of the children that attend the school. The secondary school students also lent a hand after classes!  The fence was repaired over 3 days  thus providing greater security for the school.

Progress Towards Free Secondary Education

Talks are underway for starting our own secondary school whereby funds raised on this page will go towards paying for teachers to give secondary education to the children. We have tried this on our project in Honduras and seen great results so we are very keen to expand the initiative across the projects.

We currently give scholarships to the children although this new plan will be more sustainable in the long run making sure that more children have access to Secondary Education. This will be entirely funded through the GVI Charitable Trust.
