A Blanket of Love

The Cedar Village Chesed Corps continues to give back to the community in many ways.  Their most recent project was on Cedar Village’s Mitzvah Day, December 25th, when over 100 community volunteers joined them to perform acts of loving kindness.  One special project was creating a beautiful colorful blanket for the granddaughter of Cedar Village’s Director of Nursing.  For several hours they sat around at a table lovingly tying together squares of material.  The finished blanket was sent to Gabby, an eight year old cancer patient.  Future plans for 2014 include visiting Ronald McDonald House, the Center for Respite Care, and other community organizations where they can make a difference and brighten people’s days, just like they brightened Gabby’s day.

Aquatic Therapy--Building for the Future

Construction continues on the state-of-the-art Aquatic Therapy Center at Cedar Village.  Looking out some of the windows in the Rehab Center, patients and staff are excited about the progress they are seeing.  Each of the two individual therapy pools will have a moveable floor that will rise to the deck level and then lower so that patients can work with their therapists in the warm water.  The large pool will be used for group classes.  The projected completion date is the end of May, 2014. Your gift will help purchase equipment for our patients to use to enhance their therapy experience.

Cedar Village home of the Shalom Center

Cedar Village is proud to be the home of the Shalom Center for Elder Abuse Prevention.  While victims are living at Cedar Village in a safe environment, they enjoy the many programs and activities that enrich the lives of all of the residents.  They participate in art, music, and exercise classes.  They enjoy having lunch in the deli with their new friends, and especially like attending stimulating educational programs.  As Cedar Village commemorated the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John Kennedy, they were able to share their memories and reminisce with the Cedar Village family.  And each victim receives a holiday gift that he or she has requested from the Resident Life staff.
