Seniors help at Crayons to Computers

On Thursday, we took our second trip to Crayons to Computers, a free store for teachers who work in districts that are economically disadvantaged (they define that as having 60% or more of students enrolled in the free lunch program).  It’s an amazing place and we had the chance to help with two specific projects, helping with the packaging or re-packaging of some of their supplies.

One Chesed Corps volunteer said, “As a teacher who spent my own money on supplies, I am so glad that Crayons to Computers now exists. I really enjoyed packaging supplies and I was glad to know that teachers and children were benefitting from the project. My effort was making a difference in the lives of others.”

Aquatic Center will open in October

The entire Greater Cincinnati community is looking forward to the opening of Cedar Village’s Aquatic Therapy Center. After a delay in construction because of our cold winter, we will celebrate the grand opening in late October.

Our residents will have the opportunity to exercise in a state of the art complex to complement the Rehabilitation Center. Two small therapy pools and a larger warm water pool for group classes will be available for both inpatients and outpatients to use.

Warm water therapy will facilitate the healing process for joint injuries and patients will benefit from the soothing warm water.

Your donation will be used for equipment that the therapists can use with their patients and for bathing suits for patients who cannot afford them.

Help Elder Abuse Victims

Cedar Village Retirement Community hosted a national symposium on June 10 and 11 for elder abuse prevention and elder abuse shelters. There are now eleven shelters nationally, some fully operational and some still in developmental stages.   But this is not close to the number of shelters that are needed nationally.

The Shalom Center for Elder Abuse at Cedar Village helps individuals by giving them a place to stay while they begin the work to get their lives back. When victims of abuse arrive at Cedar Village, they arrive with only the clothes on his back. Staff members will assess their needs and shop for clothing and personal items for them so that they can be integrated into the Cedar Village family with dignity and respect.

Your donation will help buy clothing and toiletries for those who are in need of help at a critical time in their lives.
