Helping the newest victim

Recently, a new victim came to the Shalom Center for Elder Abuse Prevention at Cedar Village. As with all the other victims, he came with only the clothes on his back. Staff members assessed his needs and shopped for clothing and personal items for him so that he could be integrated into the Cedar Village family with dignity and respect. The recent death of Mickey Rooney, a victim of elder abuse by his family, has brought new attention to the issue of Elder Abuse. National Elder Abuse Awareness Day is June 15th and Cedar Village will be participating in this important day to bring awareness to this national crisis. You gift will help purchase clothes and personal items for our victims of elder abuse.

Opening Minds Through Art Semester Ends

Opening Minds Through Art is now in its 11th semester at Cedar Village. Working with volunteer partners, residents have created beautiful works of art in a variety of mediums. The Opening Minds Through Art (OMA) program allows 30 residents with varying stages of dementia to express themselves through art. A highlight of each semester’s OMA Program is the opening of the art exhibit including a dinner for the artists, their family members and volunteers followed by an opportunity to proudly show their loved ones the masterpieces they have created. This year’s opening will be Thursday night, May 8th. Your donation to the OMA Program will be used to purchase art supplies for the talented artists.

Special blankets for the end of life

Cedar Village volunteers participate in many activities to benefit the residents. One activity that is very meaningful is knitting beautiful blankets for our Cedar Village Hospice patients. Each blanket is unique and made with love and care to wrap our hospice patients in warmth and comfort. Attached to each blanket is a very lovely prayer to bring spiritual greetings at the end of life. The knitters use their creativity as they make each stitch with love and then have the privilege of presenting the blankets to the patients. Your donation will help purchase beautiful yarn that our knitters can use to create these very special blankets.
