Opening Minds Through Art Reaches Seniors

Working with volunteer partners, residents have created beautiful works of art in a variety of mediums.  The Opening Minds Through Art (OMA) program allows 30 residents with varying stages of dementia to express themselves through art.  A highlight of each semester’s OMA Program is the opening of the art exhibit including a dinner for the artists, their family members and volunteers followed by an opportunity to proudly show their loved ones the masterpieces they have created.

The next session will begin on February 19th. A voluntee with the project said, “I love working with my partner on her art projects. She is so proud of the work that she has done in our classes together.”

Your donation to the OMA Program will be used to purchase art supplies for the talented artists.

One candle for Tzedakak

The mission of Cedar Village is to make aging an enriching and fulfilling experience.  Providing the opportunity for our seniors to continue an active role as leaders in the community is just one manner in which we as staff members can trulyhonor our father and mother.

Cedar Village has a successful program of engaging residents as volunteers in community service.  Chesed Corpsis a resident-driven initiative that involves both weekly and monthly acts of community service and truly exemplifies the meaning of performing a good deed.

The Chesed Corps is currently collecting gifts for one candle for Tzedakah. Tzedakah means charitable giving. The gifts will help families who are unable to purchase gifts for their children for the holidays.

“I think volunteering gives you a great deal of satisfaction, joy and peace.  I can’t tell you the feeling of success that we feel being a part of such wonderful projects,” said Helen.

Aquatic Therapy Center Open

Cedar Village residents now have the opportunity to exercise in a state of the art complex to complement the Rehabilitation Center. The Jewish Foundation of Cincinnati Aquatic Therapy Center at Cedar Village includes a 50’ x 21’ warm water wellness pool for group exercise programs and therapy and two small warm water HydroWorx pools with a moveable floor with a treadmill for one-on-one therapy sessions.

Aquatic therapy offers substantial benefits not available with conventional treatments because water reduces the effects of gravity and allows patients to move with greater ease.  It helps patients recover more quickly and with less pain than other treatments. Warm water therapy will facilitate the healing process for joint injuries and patients will benefit from the soothing warm water.

Your donation will be used for equipment that the therapists can use with their patients with aquatic therapy.
