Programs

RDO Rwanda manages a number of projects and interventions that are changing the rural communities of Rwanda for the better. Below are some examples of the work we are currently involved with: 1 - A 10 year programme with 3 key objectives: a) A maize seed multiplication within Rwanda's Eastern Province; b) Construction of a maize processing plant at Barija in Nyagatare District; c) Improving farmers skills through education, training and provision of agricultural materials and tools - such as fertilizers, threshers and ploughs. 2 - CATALIST Project (supported by IFDC/CATALIST since June 2007) RDO is playing a pivotal role in the development of more intensive, remunerative and sustainable production systems for farmers, including: a) Promoting the application of organic and inorganic fertilizers b) Supporting farmers in conducting pilot tests education through demonstration improved crop production, c) Integrating crop production, livestock production and agro-forestry in order to ensure soil fertility and environment conservation. 3 - Global Fund/Malaria Unit Malaria prevention and control: RDO is taking a lead role in the teaching rural communities how to reduce the threat and effect of Malaria. This is done through regular visits and presentations to community health workers throughout Rwanda's Eastern Province. the presentations cascade information on how to use Mosquito nets, how to identify and treat infection and how to reduce the number of mosquitos in homes and public areas.
