It's what happens when thousands of people around Oregon run into icy cold water to raise money for Special Olympics Oregon. As a "plunger" you register to participate in one of the five plunges around the state. Maybe you join a team. Maybe not. Then you raise a minimum of $50 in pledges from friends and family (but the more you raise, the bigger your incentive prizes). Then on plunge day you run or jump into the water and get out as fast as you can. You decide how far you want to go in. It's all done for fun and to raise money for a great cause.
Every three plungers allows one athlete to compete in Special Olympics Oregon's for an ENTIRE season. 10 seconds of being uncomfortable in the frigid waters of Oregon to provide months of training to the largest disability population in the state! The water is cold enough. Are you bold enough?
Plunge Dates:
February 1, 2013 Medford
February 2, 2013 Eugene
February 9, 2013 Portland & Corvallis
February 16, 2013 Bend

On July 14th & 15th Special Olympics Oregon held Summer State Games in Newberg. The Summer State Games are the state championship competitions in the sports of athletics (track & field), bocce, golf, and softball for Special Olympics athletes in Oregon. All participants have trained in their hometowns for eight weeks prior to the Summer Games and have qualified to compete at the Summer Games at a regional level competition.
Thanks to many generous donations and sponsors, there were over 1,500 participants at this years Summer State Games!

We are well on our way to reach our goal, but need you help to get us there! Jeff, a Police Officer who volunteers for Special Olympics Oregon said, "The athletes do more for me than I do for the athletes". Please help Jeff and our many other volunteers reach the thousands of people with intelectual disabilities by donating $12 a month for 12 months. This will allow individuals participating in Special Olympics Oregon to compete for a whole sports season!
Go to http://www.soor.org/Sub-Page.aspx?Name=12-FOR-12-IN-2012&PID=134 and click on any of the videos to learn more about the athletes, families, and volunteers and how $12 a month provides "Training for Life."
Special Olympics Oregon offers training and competition opportunities in 14 different Olympic-style sports. There are three sports seasons throughout the year, with statewide competitions and training in winter, summer and fall. Your $12 for 12 months donation will help athletes around the state participate in all of these fun-filled events!
