Technology Services Corps

Technology Services Corps is a non-profit organization based in the Seattle area that engages youth in technology-oriented service projects, including working in teams to refurbish used computers, to install them in underserved areas around the world, and to teach the recipients in the use and maintenance of the computers. TSC promotes leadership and skill development, community service, and global perspectives in youth who are engaged in the organization. It also promotes access to technology for communities around the world that lack such access due to limited resources.

Students Using Computers

TSC Team teaching how to use the computers
TSC Team teaching how to use the computers

The students in the schools are busy using the computers -- learning how to use Microsoft Office programs such as Word and Excel.  This will help them be better prepared for higher education, and for training for future jobs.

Many new friendships were formed and we loook forward to staying in touch with the children and teachers in these schools.

A special thanks to the Vietnamese Scholarship Foundation for their continued support of the computer labs as well as the ongoing scholarships they give to students in these communities so they can go to school and college.

TSC looks forward to working with VNSF in the future to add more computer labs to other sites and continue supporting these labs as well.

Computer Labs Successfully Installed

Students Learning How to Use the Computers
Students Learning How to Use the Computers

The computer labs were successfully installed in the the schools/church in the An Giang Province between April 11-20.  Many teaching sessions with both the teachers and children were then conducted to show everyone how to use the computers.  The children at the schools were quick learners -- and were making a wide variety of documents with word, paint and power point right away.  They did creative presentations about themselves to share with each other.

The computers give them access to Wikipedia and other important resources for learning.  Thanks to Google Translate, the students from Vietnam and the USA got to talk and learn more about each other.

We had a great time playing soccer and outdoor games, drawing and doing art projects, and making friendship bracelets with the children at the schools too.  Much laughter and fun was had by all.  It was sad to say good-bye with many wishes that we all get together again in the future.

A special thanks to our partner, the Viet Nam Scholarship Foundation for being such a great support to the TSC team, but also for the many scholarships they give to the children at these schools.

Computer Installation Completed

19 high school students and 4 chaperones travelled to Ghana in April 2013 and successfully installed 90 computers in five schools/community centers near Kumasi, Ghana.

The Ghanaians students were excited to start using the computers -- learning Microsoft Word and Excel.  They caught on very quickly.  The teachers are happy to have these tools to help students learn and be prepared for exams.

Students from both countries enjoyed spending time learning about each others cultures and playing together.

Your generous donations helped support the computer labs, and allows TSC to provide scholarships so that a diverse group of high school students can participate in international community service trips like this.
