James Beresh

James Beresh - Controller

James joined GlobalGiving full-time in 2012 after eight years developing and supporting the back-office functions as a contractor. He is now currently responsible for financial systems, all things accounting and disbursements. He has nearly 20 years of accounting experience working with small businesses in manufacturing, retail, and especially not-for-profits. Born, raised and educated in the great city of Akron, Ohio, James came to the DC area chasing his now wife Erin, and recently, their wonderful daughter Ava.

Ariel Bright

Ariel Bright - Partner Services Associate

Ariel is an Associate on the Partner Services Team. She is responsible for working with organizations that join GlobalGiving through a corporate partnership, ensuring partner expectations are met and that organizations are able to effectively engage in the GlobalGiving community. Before joining the team, Ariel received her M.A in Development Studies from the University of KwaZulu-Natal , South Africa, and holds a bachelor's degree in Criminology and Marketing from the University of Florida.

Donna Callejon

Donna Callejon - Chief Business Officer

Donna is responsible for development of corporate and other strategic partnerships for GlobalGiving. She joined GlobalGiving in 2003, and has worn quite a few hats, including Chief Operating Officer. Now she gets to spend her days doing what she loves - working with companies to help them contribute positively to communities around the world. Donna also serves on the Boards of GlobalGiving UK, Women's Funding Network, and Water for People. She previously was on the Boards of the Washington Area Women's Foundation (three years as Chair) and Business for Social Responsibility. In a prior life, Donna was a senior executive of Fannie Mae having, over a dozen years,led business units as varied as strategic planning, international consulting, marketing, product development, and customer technology. She holds a B.S. in Managerial Economics from UC Davis, but is most proud of her high school basketball team's CCS championship in 1980.
   

Alison Carlman

Alison Carlman - Senior Unmarketing Manager

In her role as Senior Unmarketing Manager, Alison is responsible for engaging the GlobalGiving community and for telling the stories of GlobalGiving and its partner projects. A Colorado native, Alison studied communication and multimedia design at Pepperdine University. She then lived in Africa for several years, working and volunteering with innovative non-profits, conducting research, and serving as a Kiva Fellow in Kenya. Alison earned her master's in community & development along with a postgraduate diploma in monitoring and evaluation from Stellenbosch University in South Africa.
   

Kaylan Christofferson

Kaylan Christofferson - Business Intelligence Analyst

Kaylan works with all parts of the GlobalGiving organization on strategies for maximizing mission-related impact and growing in a sustainable manner. Prior to joining GlobalGiving, Kaylan worked in investment banking at Morgan Stanley, where she covered a variety of corporate and sovereign clients in both New York and London. Kaylan is a North Carolina native and a graduate of the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, where she studied Economics and International Studies with a focus on economic development in Latin America. While at UNC, she had the opportunity to work on development projects with the International Labor Organization in Geneva and with several non-profit organizations in Tibet and Latin America.

Kevin Conroy

Kevin Conroy - Chief Product Officer

Kevin leads GlobalGiving's technology, unmarketing, and customer service to help donors give to more projects and projects get more donors. Previously, Kevin was a Senior User Interface Designer and Software Engineer for Hillcrest Labs where he designed award-winning, next-generation television user interfaces. He also worked as a Researcher in the Accenture Technology Labs where he developed new tools and techniques for software engineering, collaborative development, and service oriented architecture. Kevin graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a B.S. in Computer Science with Honors and a B.A. in Economics. In his spare time, Kevin writes user-friendly recipes at MakeBetterFood.com.
   

Barret Cope

Barrett Cope - Operations Analyst

In his role as Operations Analyst, Barrett ensures that GlobalGiving's operations run smoothly. From dealing with administrative issues to maintaining the first lines of communication, Barrett solves problems for GlobalGiving donors and staff. Barrett graduated from the University of Tennessee with the B.A. in Classical Civilizations. In his little spare time Barrett enjoys the therapeutic rigor of woodworking, especially when this can be combined to enhance his love for strategy board-games.

Ingrid Embree

Ingrid Embree - Director of Strategic Partnerships

Ingrid helps GlobalGiving's strategic partners achieve their philanthropic objectives. Before joining us, she was Chief Development Officer at Hispanic College Fund. She has a history of helping organizations meet their operational objectives, develop fundraising capacity, and achieve legislative victories. She has a BS in Marketing and International Management from Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business.
   

Courtney Eskew

Courtney Eskew - Partner Services Associate

Courtney works with the Partner Services Team to guarantee all new members of GlobalGiving's community are vetted to meet the highest standards in grantmaking. Prior to joining GlobalGiving, Courtney managed volunteer fundraising and outreach initiatives at World Food Program USA and taught elementary education at a start-up charter school. Courtney is a graduate of Rhodes College, where she double majored in International Studies and French. While at Rhodes, she had the opportunity to pursue Arabic language training with the State Department in Jordan; study cross-cultural mediation in Marseille, France; and work on international education projects in Rwanda and Cameroon. Courtney is an aspiring DC Roller Girl and believes slow cookers are magical.

Marisa Glassman

Marisa Glassman - Senior Business Partnerships Manager

Marisa is responsible for helping facilitate new and existing business partnerships. She formerly worked in the marketing departments of both Penguin Young Readers Group and Little, Brown Books for Young Readers in New York City. Before coming to GlobalGiving, Marisa received an MBA in Marketing and Sustainable Enterprise from the University of North Carolina's Kenan-Flagler Business School and a BSBA in Marketing and International Business from Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business.

Nick Hamlin

Nick Hamlin - Operations Associate

Nick does a little bit of everything on the operations team, including compiling analytics from our databases, helping our partners with their disbursement questions, and, on occasion, basic plumbing repair. Prior to joining GlobalGiving, he worked as a reliability consulting engineer for PTC to implement reliability programs for Fortune 500 firms around the world and held NSF research positions in China and Thailand. Nick earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering and a BA with research honors in History from the University of Rochester and also completed a Take 5 Fellowship year in Ethnomusicology.

John Hecklinger

John Hecklinger - Chief Program Officer

As Chief Program Officer, John leads GlobalGiving's effort to be an ever more effective platform for NGOs tackling worldwide social challenges. John's team works with thousands of NGOs serving communities in over 120 countries and strives to make GlobalGiving open to any NGO with great ideas for positive change. As Chief Program Officer, John oversees GlobalGiving's effort to detect learning, change, success and failure among the NGOs in the GlobalGiving network. John originally joined GlobalGiving in October of 2005 and led corporate partnership efforts as Business Development Director. These partnerships have accelerated GlobalGiving's growth and have enabled GlobalGiving's network of NGOs to connect with more sources of funding. Prior to joining GlobalGiving, John led partnership efforts at CARFAX Vehicle History Reports, creating a network of thousands of content providers in North America. After receiving English degrees from the University of Virginia and the University of Florida, John served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Bangui, Central African Republic, teaching Literature and Linguistics at the University of Bangui,serving on the National Pedagogical Council for English Instruction, and launching a modest social enterprise that produced an affordable English study guide for secondary school students.
   

Nicole Kukowski

Nicole Kukowski - Business Partnerships Manager

Nicole is responsible for maintaining corporate partner relationships, and facilitating new institutional collaborations as well. She helps companies develop cause-focused employee giving and marketing strategies, and grow their global corporate responsibility programs. Prior to GlobalGiving, Nicole worked for Washington Mutual as a Partnership Marketing Manager and Regional Leader for the company's employee engagement program. Most recently, Nicole worked with the UN Global Compact and World Trade Center Wisconsin, on developing corporate, NGO, and academic partnerships to further business development. She holds a Global MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management, and a BA in Social Sciences from the University of Arizona.

Mari Kuraishi

Mari Kuraishi (倉石真理) - Co-Founder and President, GlobalGiving Foundation

Mari co-founded GlobalGiving with Dennis Whittle, and currently leads the organization. In 2011, Mari was named one of Foreign Policy's top 100 Global Thinkers for "crowdsourcing worldsaving." Before GlobalGiving, she worked at the World Bank where she managed and created some of the Bank's most innovative projects including the first ever Innovation and Development Marketplaces, and the first series of strategic forums with the World Bank's president and senior management. Mari also designed a range of investment projects in the Russia reform program, including a residential energy efficiency project, structural adjustment loans, and legal reform project. She currently serves as chair of the board of the Global Business School Network and on the board of Guidestar US. In addition to her native Japanese, Mari also speaks Russian, Italian, and French. She has an undergraduate degree in history from Harvard University and did graduate work in Russian and Japanese history and politics at Harvard and Georgetown Universities. Mari also completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.

   
 
Britt Lake

Britt Lake - Director of Programs

Britt manages GlobalGiving's network of amazing project leaders and leads partnerships with over 1,000 organizations around the world. Britt returns to GlobalGiving after working at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and with a variety of non-profits in Sierra Leone, South Africa, Kenya, and Zimbabwe. Britt holds a B.A. in International Studies from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, a Master's in International Relations from the University of Cape Town (South Africa), and a Master's in Public Affairs from Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School.

Adrien Lamoureux

Adrien Lamoureux - Software Engineer for Good (Contractor)

Based out of Vancouver, British Columbia, Adrien has been helping out with GlobalGiving's software engineering needs since 2008. Before that he was a senior software engineer at Boats.com and Lead Programmer at FeedStream Inc. in Sudbury, Ontario. He has over a decade of experience in building web applications, specializing in content management and search. He holds a BS in Computer Science from Laurentian University, along with a certificate in search from Endeca (recently acquired by Oracle). He's constantly exploring new technologies, programming languages and methodolgies that can help GlobalGiving stay current and relevant in today's ever changing technological landscape.

Sonja Lehner

Sonja Lehner - Program Associate

Sonja is currently the Program Associate for the Crowdsourcing Social Innovation Program at GlobalGiving Foundation and primarily works with organizations new to the GlobalGiving platform. Originally from Long Island NY, Sonja graduated from Lafayette College based in Easton, Pennsylvania with a B.A. with honors in International Affairs and a B.A. in German. In the spring of 2010, she spent an amazing semester abroad in Freiburg, Germany. After graduating, she moved to the D.C. area.

Marc Maxson

Marc Maxson - Innovation Consultant

Marc Maxson is a PhD neuroscientist who helps coordinate the GlobalGiving Storytelling project in East Africa, a monitoring and evaluation experiment that aims to provide all organizations with a richer, complex view of the communities they serve (See www.globalgiving.org/story-tools/ for details). He was formerly a Peace Corps Volunteer in The Gambia (1999-2001) and did a Fulbright research project around the impact of computers and the Internet on rural education in West Africa.
   

Manmeet Mehta

Manmeet Mehta - Senior Program Manager

Manmeet builds new social sector partnerships and runs the Crowdsourcing Social Innovation program. This program invites social entrepreneurs to experiment with, deepen and integrate online fundraising strategies in their organizations' activities. Her work includes building new partnerships with youth social entrepreneurs through programs at GlobalGiving. With a background in Economics and graduate degrees in International Relations ( M.A) as well as Business Administration (M.B.A), Manmeet has over 7 years of experience in the private and philanthropic sectors in India and the US. Between 2002 and 2005 she worked with HSBC, The Taj Group & the Khemka Foundation in India. She has previously worked with Ashoka in Washington, DC.
   

Jennifer Messenger

Jennifer Messenger - Office Manager

As Office Manager, Jennifer assists the operations team contributing to the effective and efficient operations of GlobalGiving. Prior to joining GlobalGiving, Jennifer served a variety of nonprofits from art museums, community foundations, and spent the past few years training volunteers and teaching English to children in Spain. Jennifer holds a B.S. in Nonprofit Management from Manchester College and a Master's in Philanthropic Studies from Indiana University. In her free time, Jennifer enjoys traveling and exploring new places.

Alexis Nadin

Alexis Nadin - Senior Program Associate

Alexis assists in managing GlobalGiving's relationships with partner organizations. She also leads GlobalGiving's In-the-Field Program, providing training and logistical support to volunteers and staff visiting partners in the field. Prior to joining GlobalGiving full time, Alexis interned for the Project Team for two years. As an intern, she visited GlobalGiving projects and conducted workshops in East Africa and led a team of GlobalGiving volunteers in West Africa. Alexis has interned for the American Embassy in Switzerland and the International Rescue Committee, among other organizations. She has a Bachelor's Degree in International Studies and Political Science with a Certificate in Advanced Leadership Studies from the American University in Washington, DC. Alexis loves travel, her friends, and all things GlobalGiving.

Linda Shaffer Oatley

Linda Shaffer Oatley - Senior Manager, Partner Services Team

Linda leads the team that vets and monitors grants to all new organizations for GlobalGiving. She brings more than 10 years experience in grants management and engagement with governments and citizen groups to promote good governance in international development. Prior to joining GG, Linda worked as a consultant for the World Bank and spent eight years at World Resources Institute managing the largest global network of citizen groups promoting access rights. Linda holds an M.A. in International Studies from the University of Chile, and a B.A. in International Relations from American University. She and her husband live in Washington, DC.

Steve Rogers

Steve Rogers - Senior Director of Engineering

Steve is responsible for the Information Systems, Product Development and engineering processes at GlobalGiving. Prior to joining GlobalGiving, Steve successfully led the engineering team of a web-based software product company from conception, through initial product launch, and several product versions. Steve holds a BS in Computer Science from the University of Maryland, and has wide ranging computer experience, including mainframe, client-server, and web-based service-oriented expertise. He has worked in diverse industries such as banking, insurance, and real-estate.

Justin Rupp

Justin Rupp - Senior Systems Ninja

Justin keeps all the servers up and running at GlobalGiving and works with the rest of the team to develop new features and enhancements for the GlobalGiving site. Before coming to GlobalGiving he worked at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland where he wrote code for and helped administrate a large cluster used for scientific computation. He holds a B.S. in Computer Science from Kaplan University.

Mariya Rusciano

Mariya Rusciano - Transaction Czarina

Mariya is responsible for recording all of GlobalGiving's financial transactions. Before joining GlobalGiving, she worked as a bookkeeper in San Francisco, California. Mariya holds a B.A. in Communications from the University of Central Florida and is currently pursuing a degree in Accounting. She is a member of the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers and a Certified Quickbooks User. In her free time, Mariya enjoys cooking Mediterranean cuisine. She is a pro at making baklava.

Katherine Sammons

Katherine Sammons - Program Associate

Katherine manages GlobalGiving's fundraising campaigns and promotions, including Bonus Days. She also organizes and hosts GlobalGiving's monthly trainings. Before joining GlobalGiving full-time she interned with the Project Team and the Product team. Katherine graduated with her Social Work degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and she holds a Master's degree in Global Social Work from Boston College. Prior to joining GlobalGiving she interned with Jesuit Refugee Service in South Africa.

Jennifer Sigler

Jennifer Sigler - Chief Operating Officer & Chief Financial Officer

Jennifer is responsible for the overall functioning and efficiency of the organization, including Finance, Human Resources, Governance and Systems. She brings with her significant experience in both the public and private sectors. Prior to joining GlobalGiving, Jennifer served as the Chief Operating Officer of a youth entrepreneurship non-profit helping students from under-resourced communities start their own small businesses and gain acceptance into college. Jennifer's other professional experience includes work in the private sector as a Management Consultant for IBM and then a Marketer for AOL. She also holds an MBA and MA of Education from Stanford.

Nick Violi

Nick Violi - Software Engineer for Good

In his position as Software Engineer for Good, Nick is responsible for making sure the website keeps working great, and for adding new functions to make it easier to use, prettier, and hopefully more fun. Nick holds an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Maryland, and a B.S. in Math from Bates College. Before joining the GlobalGiving team, Nick and his wife took off on an around-the-world trip of 21 countries in one year.

Dennis Whittle

Dennis Whittle - Co-Founder

Dennis Whittle is co-founder of GlobalGiving, where he was CEO from 2000 though 2010. Currently he is President of The Whittle Group, an advisory practice that helps organizations and companies invent the future. During 2011-2012 he was also Visiting Lecturer at Princeton University and Global Social Entrepreneur in Residence at UNC-Chapel Hill. From 1997-2000, Dennis was part of a troika that led the World Bank's Corporate Strategy and Innovation units. From 1992-1997, he led a variety of initiatives in the Bank's Russia program, including housing reform, energy efficiency, and structural adjustment programs. From 1987-1992, Dennis was an economist in the World Bank's Jakarta office advising the Indonesian Ministries of Finance and National Development, and managing projects in the agriculture and forestry sectors. Before joining the World Bank in 1986, Dennis worked in the Philippines with the Asian Development Bank and with USAID. Dennis graduated with honors in religious studies from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, where he was a Morehead Scholar, and did his graduate work in development studies and economics at Princeton University. Dennis also completed the Executive Development Program at Harvard Business School.

 
Scott Williams

Scott Williams - Project Manager for Good

As the Project Manager for Good, Scott works with stakeholders across GlobalGiving to gather and execute brilliant ideas, requirements, and specifications to enhance the GlobalGiving platform. He has previously worked as the Digital Media Manager for the Oath Project and as an Implementation Manager for an enterprise software solutions company. Scott holds an MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Management, a BS in International Business and Marketing from Illinois State University, and is a certified Six Sigma green belt. Scott is lousy at canoeing, an expert at packing, and average at many other things.

   
 
Angela Wu

Angela Wu - Senior Business Partnerships Associate

Angela works with the Business Partnerships team to help maintain current partner relationships and to identify prospective partners. She is also responsible for analyzing key business performance. Before joining GlobalGiving, she tested the waters of various fields through internships in marketing, civil rights, and education. Angela is a Washington, DC area native and a graduate of the University of Virginia where she studied psychology, sociology, and economics. She is a freelance photographer and a concert enthusiast.

Dennis Whittle
