Kalanjiyam works in 100+ villages of Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu. Over the last month, our villages were severely hit by continuous torrential rains, of a scale not seen in nearly 100 years. It has caused floods and ravages, and 100's of families have lost homes and everything they own. Timely support will bring much needed relief and help to rebuild these rural communities, who have no where else to turn to! Every small amount can make an immediate difference, and bring lasting impact!
Since later October 2015, various parts of Tamil Nadu have been affected by continuous rains, which has led to floods and extreme disaster situation. Among those affected are our villages in Lattur and Maduranthakam, which are near some water bodies; 1000's have lost their homes, possessions and are left with nothing. These villagers have no where to turn to, access is a problem, help comes to late and leads to more adverse situations. Immediate relief is needed to restore these villages.
We are now assessing the scale of the ravages and taking steps to provide for all immediate and basic needs of these communities, including food, water, shelter, clothing, household amenities, basic health care, medicines etc. Most village families live in Kuccha houses and these have been destroyed completely- our efforts are going to focus on helping to rebuild homes many deserving families, who have no other forms of support. Building a home will provide a new life for these families
Rehabilitation of the affected household in the villages will ensure that these families come out of the calamity. Their lives will be renewed and their children will be able to go back to school. The homeless/ and displaced families life will be given back to them.
