Self Reliace

The hanging gardens was a project initiated by slum dwellers with the help of westerners. It involves planting vegetables in sacks instead of the normal way.It proved very useful because it actually saved space that was really needed for settlement. It proved to be a success and people all over the slum adopted the plan, furthermore the plants only took a few weeks to grow. The project was really a success and an office was opened for free seed distribution and the donor started a project of rewarding active members by offering cheques to members. A month into the project food was in plenty and the price of the commodity greatly reduced people only had to chang their eating habits and adapt to the vegetables that was available at the moment
