Female Genital Mutilation

Since I was born, the issue of female Genital Mutilation had been rampant. I wished that I would witness and then help in its abolition. I paid a visit to my aunt's place in Wajir with an aim of getting to know more about FGM for I was told that it was rampant and highly practiced in the area. Coincidentally on my arrival, I was welcomed by shouts and rioting all over the place. Girls were covered with lessos were walking around. when I inquired about it, I was told it was a demonstration spearheaded by women leaders from a certain NGO. The women were said to have been on the streets for months now. Ambulances were speeding up and down the streets carrying girls who were bleeding profusely. I was informed that the girls were passing through a rite of passage when the members of teh NGO invaded the ritual area. The police who were with the women arrested and apprehended two main circumcisers. This bravery of the women lead to a half of the ritual practice in the area
