Reclaiming The Forest

My name is Edwin Otunga. I come from Shitaho an area bordering Kakamega Forest.Over the past years, our forest has been reducing in size due to encrachment by human beings to get timber and also get land for settlement and farming. In abid to save our forest from diminishing, Greenbelt Movement a non- governmental organization has been on the forefront implementing policies to reclaim it.It has organized afforestation and re-afforestation programmes which have seen many trees being planted .it also initiated a project dubbed as 'cut 1, plant two' which required that if anyone was to cut any tree he was supposed to plant two others at the same time. The forest is slowly being recovered and the move is really encouraging , at the same time bringing hope to the future
