Promoting Productionand Use Of Organic Fertilizer

The rising cost of farm input and in particular conventional fertilizers are providing prohitive to the operations of small scale farmers.In 1998 participatory ecological land use management(PELUM)a network of civic society organization involved in promoting sustainable agriculture through enviromentally friendly low cost inputs conducted a training seminar was conducted in thika in August. The organic fertilizerrs is prepared through disposal of farm residue in a lot 3 by 9. This includes four subsequent layer of dry leaves remains of napier and cattle waste 40 litres of slurry,ashes and the soil This is left to decompose for three months being turned over on a fortnigt basis. At last this ends up as refined fertilizer which can be applied on the farm at a planting as well as top dressing.
