This project aims to empower 300 women in the rural areas of Afghanistan where financial problems are the main source of domestic violence. Majority of the poor families sells and marries their daughters to rich old men which have resulted into many suicide cases. Your donation will provide these women with significant and effective business training in tailoring, livestock farming, embroidery and handcraft skills and start-up loans to stand on their feet, have their own earnings and not beg.
A woman was burned by her husband's brother, because she raised her voice against the daily abuse. This is only one example of women's suffering in rural areas of Kabul. The number of such cases increases everyday and justice is rarely served. As non-earning members of their homes with no experience of the outside world, women are undermined, silenced and not even respected or valued for their vital roles as mothers. As a result, women lack self-esteem. They doubt what they can be capable of.
Business training, professional advice, providing loans and technical support by experienced businesswomen and trainers improves women's livelihood and boosts their self-confidence to not be restricted by the many factors suppressing them. We have observed that once women have had her own income, men in the family have started treating them with more respect and there is less domestic violence. Therefore, we believe this project will solve the problem of the 300 women in rural area of Kabul.
Women who are confident, self-reliant and financially independent play a strong role in the family. They not only equip their children particularly sons with the treasure of education but also teaches their boys about how to treat and respect women. These women can better promote gender equality and fight against the many destructive stereotypes. What we are seeking is that with each of the 300 women we train a family of 9 to 10-members will have a positive mindset toward women's position.
