In order for humanity to survive, we must stop the existential threats of climate change and nuclear war. The International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW), New York Physicians for Social Responsibility (NYPSR), and PEAC Institute are continuing their growing youth collaboration, Youth Empowerment to Prevent Extinction (YEPE), to plan the youth track for the World Conference to Abolish Nuclear Weapons; Resist and Reverse the Climate Crisis; For Social and Economic Justice.
Climate change and nuclear war are the two greatest threats to global health and survival. Despite Nobel Peace Prizes, the Nuclear Ban Treaty, and the efforts of experts and activists, the issue of nuclear weapons and war has not received the attention it deserves given the grave nature of the threat. Even with demonstrably unprincipled and ill-equipped leaders in command of these doomsday weapons, the danger remains beneath public notice, especially among post-Cold War generations.
The main focus of this conference is the existential twin threats of nuclear war and climate change. One of the many goals of this conference is to mobilize the next generation of activists. The youth will not only be working amongst themselves, but will be learning and collaborating alongside professionals, delegates, and all other attendees of the main conference. We will present viable information regarding the twin threats and agree to practical joint actions to combat these issues.
Educate hundreds of future leaders and focus attention on the twin existential threats of nuclear war and climate change. The future leaders will leave the conference with new information, realistic goals, and life-long connections to continue their work to combat these threats.
