During the last week, we had the opportunity to visit Guaruchal and learn with all the community in a workshop about the construction using local materials, which will allow us to advance in the construction of the school.
For one week, our team experienced the reality of living in Guaruchal, a place without water and electric service, which helped us to understand and think of a few new ideas for the project together with Juan Borges, an expert architect in construction with earth and clay, who taught us about different techniques to use these materials to build the new school in Guaruchal.
With the participation of 30 members of the community, we were able to make a few samples of adobe blocks and rammed earth walls to see which of them could be used to build the school. Have made these samples, allows us to build from zero an earth structure, with its roof and floor tiles, that proves to the community what they are capable of with a little hard work. The participants were in charge of looking for the earth to construct the walls and the tails, and cutting the wild cane (Arundo donax) needed to make the base of the roof; materials that they could find in the same community. In addition, they were responsible for the manufacture of the molds for the ceiling and the floor.
We continue working to achieve the construction of the school and give the community the opportunity for development that they deserve.
Simultaneously, we continue to work on improving our fundraising techniques in order to reach many more people who want to join us to make this project possible.
