We want to give hope to its young people and give them the opportunity to develop their great tourist, agricultural and craft potential. This meeting place for the common wellness, a Youth Training Center will allow them to deal with main community problems and defend fundamental and citizen rights. It will directly benefit 4 communities in El Pilar sector where approximately 1,000 people live. Statistics show the great need for training programs for new generation without a life project.
Specifically in the municipality of Benitez, poverty levels range between 82% and 35% of young people who do not study or have a job. There is evidence of a high level of school desertion among young people over 15 years of age, a high percentage of illiterate people, adolescents without a life project or job opportunities. The region has been stagnant and its inhabitants show hopelessness that is exacerbated by community segregation due to lack of basic services.
The participatory design and construction of a space for community training and knowledge exchange will allow to develop leadership and community strength. In addition, it will provide the opportunity to exchange knowledge, training opportunities in new trades and skills in tasks that are currently carried out.
These tools will be the catalyst for the upward economic movement of the community. This new meeting place will be a light (in the metaphorical and literal sense) to transcend the harsh reality that the rural communities of the Paria Peninsula face every day.
