The Free Yezidi Foundation has established a children's center in an IDP camp in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Now that the center is established, FYF seeks funding for programs to be delivered throughout 2021 for Yezidi survivor children. Because Yezidis have suffered horrendous cruelty during the ISIS attacks, it is essential to provide children with an opportunity for healing and post-trauma recovery. It is equally important that they receive education, nurturing, and care at this age.
In 2014 ISIS terrorists invaded various parts of Iraq, killing untold numbers of civilians. In August 2014, ISIS invaded the city of Sinjar and surrounding areas, home to a religious minority population, the Yezidis. Many children have lost both parents, and almost every child has lost a close relative. The Yezidi population has suffered intense trauma, and children of all ages have been forced to endure pain and loss at a young age.
The FYF Children's Center provides a healthy environment where children have the opportunity to learn, play, and grow. The facility ensures an enriching experience for children. Now that the center has been established, FYF wishes to fund programs for coming year for the educational growth and emotional care of the children. Along with instruction in English, computer skills, and playtime, FYF also provides access to a psychologist and has a fully equipped outdoor playground.
The children served by the FYF Children's Center have endured horrific trauma. In order for the Yezidi community to recover from the attempted genocide by ISIS terrorists, children must be allowed to continue their educational, emotional, and social development. The Children's Center is one location where children can benefit from a safe, comfortable environment. This is an important investment, as these children will be the leaders of tomorrow in the Yezidi community.
