Summary

Uganda currently is hosting more than one million South Sudanese refugees mainly women and children, root for refugee is due to the sundry of civil war and economic hardship which resulted to the collapse of public institution in South Sudan. It is estimated that nearly 90% of Women refugee in Uganda carries the responsibility to grantee the future and Success of their children if they are empowered, hence Lacha Community and Economic Development aims to support 100 refugee women

Challenge

South Sudan conflict left one in four people uprooted, Uganda hosts more than 1 million South Sudanese refugees according to the July 2017 UNHCR report, while civilians continued to face horrific violations, including widespread sexual violence forced recruitment of youth by armed actors. Hunger and malnutrition reached to unprecedented levels, forcing women and children to flee to the neighboring Uganda for their lives, this project aims to empower 100 vulnerable refugee women in Uganda

Solution

The project aims to provide income generating activities training for 100 households vulnerable S Sudanese women refugees to become self-reliant and able to meet their daily livelihoods, the project aims to work with two vulnerable refugee women groups, (1) provide skills for managing petty business for 50 vulnerable refugee women to become self-reliant, and (2) provide knowledge for 50 vulnerable refugee women on commercializing the vegetable productions as source of their livelihoods

Long-Term Impact

The knowledge acquired by the refugee women on managing small business and commercial vegetable farming, will potential make long-term impact, the success of this few group targeted by this project will encourage many South Sudanese refugee women to learn from the first group and establish their own livelihoods coping mechanisms and reduced total dependence on the relief aid in future, this pilot project will also encourage other organizations to consider women empowerment in Uganda
