Summary This project is to empower 150 school dropped out women and girls with design and tailoring skill in Ozuitem - Abia State, and in Enugu East - Enugu State, all in Nigeria. When the women and young girls gain the tailoring skills, they will be able to contribute to the well-being of their families and in the long run improve their livelihood and develop their communities. This is a two years project.
The major income generating activity of women in Ozuitem - Abia State, and in Enugu East - Enugu State is farming. With the change of weather, burning of farmland by unknown people and the eating of crops by cows, farm productivity has become poor and has harden livelihood, hence affecting the community. Also, there are lots of women who have dropped out of schools due to financial stress, this has lead to unwanted pregnancy within this region as girls do dirty things to eat and survive.
The Future in You Foundation, (TFF)" will train 150 women and girls in design and tailoring skill for two years. After attaining the skills they will be able to source for capital and can also apply for the loans to purchase sewing machines, raw materials and start their businesses. Though, TFF intend helping trained women with some percentage of the fund to help them start up their business. All trainees will have complimentary computer lessons so that they can cope with the global village.
The trained women and girls will employ and train other women and young girls to have a multiplier effect in their community. This will reduce youth unemployment and unwanted pregnancy. They will form TFF home of design alumni for knowledge sharing among the group and this will support their economic activities growth, working in teams for mass production and widening their markets. This will go a long way in improving their livelihoods and developing the community
