Update from "Women Political Leadership in Israel-Palestine"
By Riman Barakat - IPCRI
Dear Supporters of our "Women Political Leadership in Israel-Palestine" project,
Thanks to your help we are able to continue supporting this important project that aims to empower Israeli and Palestinian women to have a voice in the resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as well as to deal with with bi-national issues of cooperation.
We at IPCRI are deeply grateful for the generosity of all of our donors—large and small. Your contributions are helping Palestinian women to get involved into the Israel-Palestine conflict's peace-process building. We are proud to announce what we have achieved so far and what we are currently working on:
In January, the first cycle of this project, funded by Zivik, finished with a project evaluation and a meeting among all the women participants assessing their personal development through the program and explaining the outreach initaitives for their policy proposals that they will continue after the program. The diverse fields of action selected by the women demonstrate their deep understanding of the issues which women in conflict zones are dealing with – in their daily lives and in aspiring women leadership in peacemaking.
A series of lectures were conducted on the need for bereaved mothers to grieve, and a panel is in the making to discuss women narratives of success in conflict zones.
The women celebrated their acheivements and will continue working together in the Joint Womens Forum created through this project.
Currently we are working towards getting funded for a second cycle of the project that will work with both the women already trained and a new group of women in order to both deepen the lessons learned by the women already trained and to expand the program and women's network to additional benefactors.
There is still more to come from these women as they saw this meeting as a "beginning of a new phase in their lives that has changed inside out."
Stay tuned for more information in our next report.
