Project will contribute to prevention of new HIV infections through the Empowerment of the adolescent girls and young women on Safe Choices, providing them with an opportunity for Awareness and Knowledge Exchange to build on the negotiation skills, Linkaging and providing them Referral Services for quality health services and commodities while in the meantime Empower them to alternative Livelihood Opportunities
Statistics show that in Mombasa County the population stands at more than 915,000 with more than 60,000 people being currently living with HIV and AIDS with more than 7,000 being children. According to the Kenya AIDS Indicator Survey (2014) the prevalence rate stands at 7.4%. This has made HIV and AIDS being among the leading causes of death in the County. In Kenya by 2018 more than 300,000 young people were reported to be living with HIV and AIDS with a possible new infection of 18,000 youth.
DAYO purposes to have a multi-faceted approach strategy. This will include Women and Girls Empowerment (WAGE) approach in Mombasa County. Some of the strategic approaches include and not limited to: Empowerment on Safe Choices, Awareness and Knowledge Exchange, Linkaging and Referral Services and Empowerment to alternative Livelihood Opportunities. The primary and deliberate intervention is to overshadow gender masculinity towards averting possible new infections and access to SRHR.
Project will empower 120 adolescent girls and young women on Safe Choices; reducing chances of new HIV infections by 75% and thus reducing the burden of HIV and AIDS by 95% in our community.
