Summary

The project will ensure funds for the Summer Academy camp and workshops for Roma children in Slovakia coming from weak social conditions. The main goal of these activities is the integration, development of talent/skills as well as to increase their motivation to study properly during whole school year. The children love to attend workshops and Summer academy because they have opportunity to leave their homes, meet with other children and work with famous lecturers and artists.

What is the issue, problem, or challenge?

Roma children from Dive Maky (50) are coming from segregated Romany communities. Dive maky support them by scholarships donated by individual donors enabling them to study at quality schools. Throughout the year they have no opportunities to meet real professionals from their area of specialisation. Activities as workshops and Summer academy gives them opportunity to gain new skills and motivation. Workshops and Summer academy support also children's integration and personal development.

How will this project solve this problem?

Workshops are important part of Dive maky system. Children besides regular school activities also attend activities organised by Dive maky which opens them new horizons and opportunities. Thanks to these workshops they can work in a positive environment while getting an opportunity to meet lecturers and artists who are profesionals in their studying areas. The added value of the project is that children can work together on their development outside of their home environment.

Potential Long Term Impact

The long-term effect is to increase educational progress, motivation, inspiration and success of 50 Romany children from Dive maky. The greatest result is when children complete high school education and continue to study at Universities. Currently we have 7 University students from Dive maky-studying medicine, chemical engineering, pedagogy, acting and dancing, etc. The activities like workshops,Summer academy, concerts, public exibitions etc motivate the children for further development.
