The WELTI scholarship scheme for 20 young women is an initiative of the WELTI leadership academy. This initiative aims at sponsoring the senior secondary education of 20 destitute young women from Lambe, Mushin, Badagry and Ijora badia areas of Lagos and Ogun state respectively in Nigeria. WELTI Leadership academy is going to admit these 20 young women into its academy and groom them for 3 years with a leadership curriculum, skill acquisition curriculum and their normal school system.
Nigeria has 49.9% illiteracy rate out of a total of approximately 196 million people. Research has shown that as a result of the poverty level, many children are out of school. Some start and drop out while many never even started. This eventually has led to a very poor socio-economic status of many citizens, low skill level and little ability of young women at the forefront of survival.
This project with start off by adopting 20 destitute young women, give them a scholarship through senior secondary school while they are trained in the area of skill acquisition and leadership. Each phase will last for 3 years.
At the end of each 3 years, the beneficiaries of this project will have the necessary vocational/technical skills for survival. At the end of each 3 years, the beneficiaries will have successfully completed their secondary school education. At the end of each 3 years, the beneficiaries will be able to gain employment at a basic level in any organization. At the end of the first 3 years of this project, a total of 20 young women would have been impacted & 20 families would have been impacted.
