Project #12290

Clean Water Well for a village/school in Cameroon

by Plant A Seed

 Hi Friends!!

Sorry for the long silence. Most of you on social media know that this has not been due to inactivity, but more because we have so many exciting things going on. The first phase of the projectWater for Sagmalema, is fully funded and Engineers Without Borders and Plant A Seed are continuing to raise funds for the second phase. Construction of the project has been postponed to December 2016. There is a tentative plan to take another survey trip in March.

Here is a quick update on our activies:

-Jespa’s surgery is fully funded. You can support his education.

-the first phase of the water project (water for sangmalema) is fully funded. You are welcome to support the second phase of the project which includes building either a water tank or rain-catcher.

- We continue to raise funds for school supplies for kids in the villages.

-We continue to raise funds for the summer sports program, which also provided school supplies to all participants.

-We are finally asking that you consider supporting the administrative costs of Plant a Seed.

You can donate to Plant A Seed through our website: Thank you so much for your continuous support.

Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Hello Everyone,  Wishing you a very successful 2014 from Sangmelima, Cameroon.  Plant A Seed and Engineers Without Borders Notre Dames Chapter arrived in Sangmelima on the 31st of December. Since then we have met with the villagers (for New Year celebration), the Senior Divisional Officer and the Deputy Mayor of Sangmelima. They are all excited about the project. The team is currently taking water samples and testing so as to figure out the best quality water to provide to the school and community. We are also working with the community to decide what type of water system will be most beneficial not only to the school but to the community general.  As of now,  a good and most efficient water system will cost $40,000 and more compared to the original $5000 system. This system will allow families to be able to connect water from the source to their homes therefore providing them not only with clean water for drinking but also with clean water for washing, cleaning and cooking. The advantages of this system outweighs the cost and even though it is quite overwhelming,  it is completely worth giving it a try while still having the option of the original $5000 project as a last resort. We can never know what we can accomplish together if we do not try. I cherish your continuous support for this project and Plant A Seed.  As someone once said, "Water is life. He who brings water brings life and where there is water there is life". Thank you so much for doing just this for the people of Sangmelima. See Attached pictures of the team.  With Gratitude,

Ruth Akumbu

Ruth Akumbu

After two weeks in Cameroon, we have visited all our locations and Rashel is finally back in the USA. She will be uploading a video of the project as soon as  she can as she was not able to do it from this end. Please stay tuned and help us by telling your friends and family about this project. We need 30 more donors to earn a permanent spot on here. We have raised 520 of the $5000 need to build this water well so we really need a lot of help this week which is our last week for this challenge. Help!! Thanks!!
