VolunteerCorps is organising free intensive tutoring for 10,000 indigent senior secondary school students in public schools in Osun state of Nigeria. This increases their chances of success at the Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations and other similar qualifying examinations. We provide free study materials Provide free meals to students and tutors (on Saturdays when we have extended tutorial sessions). We organise refresher courses for Volunteer tutors (public school teachers)
The alarming failure rate of Public School students at the Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations in Nigeria has led to difficulty in educational advancement and eroding values amongst the youths. Most of these students do not have access to quality education and cannot afford basic study materials. Volunteer Corps provides free supplementary tutorials to students of public secondary schools, in preparation for the Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations.
Our free tutoring and mentoring classes to final year Secondary school students augments the public-school curriculum and afford the students the avenue to cultivate fundamental life skills. Free English Language and Mathematics study materials are also distributed to the students. Volunteer teachers are trained and equipped to tutor and mentor the students, this also enhances their teaching skills and improves performance of their duties as public school teachers.
This project will coach 10,000 teenagers, helping them succeed at the Senior Secondary school Certificate examinations (SSCE), thereby increasing their chances of educational advancement and improving their self-worth. Educational advancement leads to youth employability and productivity for national economic development. Volunteer teachers training also enhances their teaching skills and improves performance of their duties as public school teachers.
