Massive rains in Kerala have killed dozens of people and flooded out thousands. A red alert has been issued for more rains to come. Victims are being evacuated by helicopter and housed in 738 relief camps. They have nothing and need help to survive the coming days. We can provide food, water, clothing, and sanitary supplies, and help them start to rebuild their lives.
August's monsoon rains have inundated the rivers and canals, washing out bridges, submerging houses, and creating massive mudslides. Thousands have lost everything they owned, including the farms they depend on for sustenance. Families who have been struggling to survive after last year's devastating rains now must rebuild again.
We will provide immediate relief to feed and clothe displaced families and provide them with fresh water and sanitary supplies to avoid disease. Then we will help them try to rebuild their lives.
The record-breaking rains of the last two years have been devastating emotionally as well as physically for the people of Kerala. Receiving ongoing help to re-establish their livelihoods will not only keep them from starving but will give them hope that they can survive and rebuild.
