The UCAC Scholarship program intends to support high performing students who would otherwise be unable to attend the university due to financial obstacles. Since the early days of our institution in the 1990's, we have relied on institutional and private donors and have been able to provide more than 6,000 students with scholarship support for the past 25+ years. As our donor list has diminished over the year for various reasons, we are in dire need of support from friends and fellow alumni.
At the UCAC, we want to attract the best undergraduates from economically diverse backgrounds to help all of our students prepare to live and lead in the real world and help reduce poverty in Africa. As private donor list has diminished for various reasons (i.e passed away, focus on other issues), the price of a top-quality UCAC education is out of reach for many promising students from middle and low-income sub-saharan families. The average annual cost for a program at UCAC is around US$2000.
The objective of financial aid is to ensure that admitted students are able to become attending students. For our very first scholarship fundraising, we would like to raise $40,000. It will allow us to provide a financial-aid package of $250- $1000 to 50-200 of our most needed students, which will be truly in line with our mission of being "at the service of justice and truth"
By helping these disadvantaged students, the UCAC contributes to their professional integration. This will improve their living conditions and gradually that of their families, thus gradually contributing to the reduction of poverty.
