The project will mentor and support young entrepreneurs through a robust entrepreneurship and mentorship incubation that will see unemployed educated youths being subjected to a thorough entrepreneurship program that will train, mentor and fund feasible business plans in order to challenge the status quo and the African narrative of unemployment arising out of an education that is not evidence and solution based.
Kakamega county has a population of 1.8M of which 0.8M are youths who are unemployed and not constructively engaged even with very attractive academic documents. This can be attributed to a skewed education system that emphasizes on hard skills and white collar jobs meaning that the number of graduates being churned out is far much huge as compared to the jobs on the market. This is a time bomb we are sitting on waiting for the most appropriate time to explode.
It is against this backdrop that our NGO has crafted a project titled EELS- Entrepreneurship, Education and Life Skills in which we are targeting 2000 youths whom we aim to subject to a robust entrepreneurship incubation through which they will be mentored in all aspects of entrepreneurship, talent/skill and Life skills then who will successfully complete the program will present business plans that will be funded to start small businesses for self sufficiency and creation.
The program is ahead of the curve by providing incubation and funding to low income, at risk, vulnerable and underserved youths. The following outcomes are to be achieved; Increase the number of youths with entrepreneurship acumen in Kakamega county, Increase the number of at risk youths with Life skills, To provoke the youths to have innovative minds in starting their own home based industries, To reduce crime rates in Kakamega county and its environs and incubate and nurture young businesses.
