Hanaeleh is a non-profit horse rescue in Southern CA. We are verified with the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries, and work with the ASPCA's Horse Action Team and are a member of the HSUS Horse Coalition. Hanaeleh helps rescue and rehabilitate horses in Southern California and we also work to educate the public and advocate about equine-related issues. We are a 100% volunteer-run organization, and all of the funds raised goes towards caring for the horses.
Much of working at the rescue requires physical labor. We need to move hay and 50 pound bags of grain and pellets around the facility. We also need to have a more efficient way to move the buckets with manure down the hill to the dumpster- this is time-consuming and some people can't physically do this. We have people who want to help, but some of our volunteers have physical disabilities, and the heavier work falls to a few people who burn out quickly.
A 4x4 UTV will help all of our volunteers do the tasks required, including feeding the horses, moving hay and grain, and dragging the arena. It will allow us to move the manure down to the dumpster on a daily basis, which will help reduce the flies on the property. Since we will not be spending so much time on the more laborious tasks, it will free up some of our volunteers' time so they can spend it with the horses.
The UTV will allow us more flexibility in our scheduling of volunteers, and will allow the volunteers to spend more quality time with the horses on a daily basis. Taking daily trips of manure to the dumpster will reduce our fly and yellow jacket population, reducing the need to use so much fly spray and other pesticides. We will also be able to drag the arena on a bi-weekly basis, which will be safer for the horses. In addition, we can assist those volunteers with physical disabilities.
