Despite all social development programs and efforts, poverty have increased by 3.9 million people in Mexico. Current solutions are top down and most development programs are focused in addressing only the symptoms, the visible problems (hunger, low income, housing, educational backwardness), not the root causes (inequality, corruption, dependency, clientelism and insignificance) leaving people in rural areas powerless to transform their lives to achieve a life of self-reliance and dignity.
THP empower women to become the key change agents for community-led development. We first mobilize women to enter the public space, & participate in equal numbers with men in development activities. As women emerge with dynamism & passion, these women receive additional leadership training. Women leaders transform the development agenda placing greater emphasis on health, education, nutrition, water & sanitation than their male counterparts. They become role models that transform gender norms
Catalyzing gender focused, community-led development in these communities will strengthen their community organization skills, leadership capacities and citizenship for collective action to advance their priorities towards an integrated local development. 45 Indigenous women will participateinpoliticsto bring equality, to have their voice in the design of policies being implemented in their municipio, resulting in achieving self-reliance successfully for everyone.
