As part of the UN Women - led initiative 'UNiTE to End Violence against women and Children' The Joe Slovo Foundation is raising funds to support groups helping female victims of Abuse, Violence and Assault recover by improving the capacity of local communities to treat survivors. The Foundation is also providing a means of protection for the women and girls against further abuse and helping educate communities to prevent future violence and encourage behavior change.
South Africa is a beautiful country, of lovely people. Unfortunately, Interpol says it is also the Capital of the World for Abuse against Women where Gender Based Violence has reached epidemic proportions. To combat this. There is NO funding for victim support centers and NO real education program to teach young and old men that women abuse is wrong.
The Joe Slovo Foundation is helping build the capabilities of communities to support victims recover from abuse. - we are doing this through supporting and building crisis centers and councilors The Foundation is also helping PREVENT abuse through rolling a FREE Mobile Rescue Alarm Service for girls & women to use when they feel in danger that instantly sends multiple alarm messages to family & friends.
We are giving the service free throughout the country and via sponsors will make this self -sustainable for 20 million females. Changing the Rape Culture through Education is the best long term solution which is why we are working with Local Community based organisations as well as the UN Women Office in Southern Africa - so that they can utilse the service to help support victims and improve education The Foundation is a SARS accredited Public Benefit Organisation.
