To ensure a quick trickledown effect, multiplier effect and sustainability of the acquired skills, four community facilitators (4CFS) were identified and trained with an intention enabling them acquire additional knowledge and skills to support their fellow youth. The CFS received four day training in Training of trainers’ skills (TOT) and among the topics covered were Self Help Group concept and dynamics, leadership skills, conflict resolution, resource mobilization, project management, record keeping, public speaking, and role transfer.
The CFS did not only receive theoretical training, but they were also attached to recognized farms to witness some of the skills in a real situation. The 4 CFs visited Katende Harambe Urban training centre in the out skirts of Kampala. They were exposed to various skills which included among others, Animal production and management, Crop protection and agronomic practices, Project plans and programming, Environmental protection, Record keeping and value addition.
The youth applauds the training and one of them testifies; I used to do pet jobs on the village for survival, but with training in project management I came to realize my weakness. I started farming as a business grew vegetables where I can earn more than 300,000= UGX per season. I have become a role model to his my fellow trainees.
