Food production should increase by 60% in order address the demanding need of the many households ranging from 6-8 people per house hold. This information has been revealed by the assessment carried out in the vulnerable families supported by Kitovu Mobile.

As a means to address this gap, efforts have been made to train and equip the youngsters with skills and knowledge in areas of business promotion and food production.

“KS” is among the many trainees who have a made a step forward to respond to our goal of scaling up food production.

“KS” has established gardens of various crops both for home consumption and business. His gardens comprises of 1000 eucalyptus trees,  half an acre of onions and one acre of beans. On top of his gardens “KS” owns three pigs of which one is a sow that has just farrowed to 12 piglets and the two are castrates which he, fattens to generate money quickly to enable him buy an extra piece of land.

It is noted that “KS” is becoming the bread winner of the family and given the substantial contributions he makes in terms of food and cash towards the wellbeing of the entire family and his siblings in particular. The training offered to trainees has not only impacted to the wellbeing of the trainees but also to the entire community through farmer to farmer learning.
