School is finally back in session so we wanted to take this time to reflect on the highlights from the past school year as we gear up for an even better 2014-15. Thanks to our Community of Learners, Tutorpedia Foundation provided 3,157 hours of free tutoring to 228 Bay Area students last year!
Eduardo’s Achievement
Eduardo was an inspiration for us this year. Coming in with a failing grade in geometry and limited language skills, he managed to turn his grade around and ended the school year with a B. His tutor George expressed how patient, sharp, and efficient Eduardo was during his sessions. “Eduardo came into our tutoring sessions with very focused questions. At times when the answers must have appeared arbitrary to him, he never became frustrated or discouraged, always learning as much as he could with good humor and great patience,” said George. The language barrier made it difficult for him to master and memorize every method and concept but if he continues to work hard and remains dedicated, he is well on his way to earning an A in his math classes this year. Fortunately, he has the right attitude, disposition, and tutor to do just that!
Become a Volunteer Tutor
Tutorpedia Foundation is looking for volunteer tutors to help us expand our reach with students just like Eduardo. Tutors are needed to work 1-1 with middle school and high school students on a variety of subjects. Tutoring for the fall semester begins September 2, 2014 and ends December 19, 2014. All TF tutors receive training and orientation to empower you to support our students, a toolkit for quick-reference during tutoring sessions, and ongoing support. Farewell to Diaris, Welcome to Nikole!
This summer we bid a fond farewell to our Director of Operations, Diaris as she headed off to Atlanta to start the 2-year MBA program at Emory University's Goizueta Business School and welcomed a new member to our team, C. Nikole Saulsberry, as our Development & Communications Manager. Nikole comes to us with a track record of success with nonprofit fundraising and communications as well as a fresh perspective that we are excited to have on board.
Your Support Matters
Minute for minute and dollar for dollar, one-on-one instruction is the most effective way to help students improve their grades and test scores, prepare them for college, and instill in them a lifelong love of learning. But don’t just take our word for it. Recently Alicia S, a parent of one of our students, called to share how happy she is with her daughter's tutoring and we wanted to pass along her inspiring message to our Community of Learners who help make her daughter's tutoring possible.
“Tutorpedia has provided so much support for me as a mother and for my daughter. We wouldn’t have been able to get Mariah as far as she has gotten in school, in math and reading, without Tutorpedia. They’re the bomb and I couldn’t see her as happy as she is without Tutorpedia! We don’t look at Tutorpedia as just a tutor, they’re like our family.”
