Three cheers for a happy and productive spring!

Here at Tutorpedia Foundation we have been keeping ourselves busy and enjoying our efforts to make education more personal for under-resourced Bay Area youth. With a couple months left in the school year, Tutorpedia Foundation tutors are helping students prepare for finals, AP exams, and the SAT. This summer we will complete our annual program evaluations and continue to refine our programming to better serve our students and community partners.

Last fall, we launched our strategic planning process -- an intensive, iterative process led by our leadership staff and board with the help of nonprofit consulting firm Third Plateau. We would like to express a special thanks to the volunteers, donors, tutors, and partners that participated in exploratory interviews that helped us better identify our key strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. As a team we are now more aligned on the key strategies we will use over the next 3-5 years in order to better define Tutorpedia Foundation, prepare for growth, and ensure long-term sustainability.

We look forward to sharing more of our vision and plans with you over the coming months.

New Partner! YMCA (San Francisco)

Tutorpedia Foundation goes beyond finding great tutors and matching them with students and community partners. We also work with tutors to make students’ academic experiences more effective, meaningful, and fun. YMCA Urban Services of San Francisco serves over 1,500 youth annually and we are thrilled to announce that we will be working closely with the YMCA in order to improve the quality of academic support that they are providing to students at their 10 sites across the city.

In August, TF will conduct a comprehensive Tutor Training Institute for staff at the YMCA who are engaged in providing direct service to youth. All YMCA staff will receive our Tutor Toolkit, a resource manual that contains ideas, guidance, support, and reference materials for community members working with young people as academic mentors and tutors. We will continue to support YMCA site coordinators throughout the school year and provide 6 additional professional development sessions.

Whether our tutors are on the ground or we are supporting an existing program staff, TF is here to help our partners make education more personal for Bay Area students! Thanks to people like you spreading the word about our work, we were grateful to receive financial or in-kind support from several foundations and businesses in the community.

Education By Design 2.0

Thanks again to those who attended Education By Design 2.0 — Tutorpedia Foundation's 4th annual conversation on personalizing education. We had nearly 200 people register for this year's event and we were able to raise about $23,000 to continue making education more personal for under-resourced Bay Area middle and high school students through professional tutoring and targeted academic support.

Foundation Support

Education By Design 2.0

Thank you for your generous support of Tutorpedia Foundation. We're grateful that you have chosen to stay connected with us and hope to see you soon so we can thank you in person! We'd love to have you join us at Education By Design 2.0 on February 27, 2014 at the Autodesk Gallery in San Francisco.

Because of your support, during the 2012-2013 academic year:

90 students received personalized academic support
1900 hours of tutoring were provided
84% of TF Scholars saw grade improvement
89% of TF Scholars noted increased confidence
85% of TF Scholars felt more motivated
10% average increase in test scores
100% of TF Scholars matriculated to the next grade level

We are currently working on our 3-5 year strategic plan to build a sustainable future for Tutorpedia Foundation and our students. In 2013, we created a comprehensive data and impact plan, hired site coordinators for 4 program sites to refine the model and experience for students and partners, and we continue to offer students personalized access to professional educators with specific content expertise.

Welcome Back to School!

Dear Supporters,

As summer officially winds down and the start of the new school year ushers in autumn, we wanted to take the opportunity to share some recent developments we've made with regards to our programming. We're grateful to have members of our Community of Learners make unique contributions which each help us continue to refine the Tutorpedia Foundation model and better serve students.

TF Program Overview (2013-14 Edition)

We have discontinued the student application process for our inaugural "scholarship program" which awarded free tutoring on an annual basis to under-resourced students from across the Bay Area. We made this shift to increase student impact by better leveraging our tutors' time through the clustering of students at individual sites; this represents a shift in our model in favor of deeper collaborations with fewer program partners. We have grandfathered our relationships with existing TF Scholars receiving tutoring scholarships.

This year we plan to provide 120 students with over 3000 hours of service which represents a 33% increase in TF Scholars and 60% time increase in high quality personalized tutoring.

We hired new site coordinators and lead tutors for our program sites! These roles represent greater leadership opportunities for our tutors as we strengthen our relationships with partners in the community and measure impact on students through program data. We welcome Paula (Canal Alliance), Colin (Sophie Scholars), Elisa (Mission HS), Liz (Huckleberry SF), Molly (Sacred Heart Prep), and Ariel (Bay School) to their new positions and wish them good luck with the new school year!

**Become a Volunteer Tutor**

Tutorpedia Foundation is looking for volunteer tutors to help us at our tutoring program at Mission High School (MHS) in San Francisco this year. Tutors are needed to work 1-1 with 10th grade students on academic subjects and school success at MHS.

Programming occurs Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:45-2:30pm. Volunteers are asked to make a commitment to work with students 1 or 2 days per week.

Program begins September 16, 2013 and ends May 23, 2014, with no programming the weeks of Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day, and April 1st (for spring break).

Tutors must have solid understanding of Algebra as it represents the greatest academic need for our students; however, tutors will also be able to assist students in other areas including reading comprehension, writing, critical thinking, organization, time management, and study skills.

Tutorpedia Foundation will provide training and support for volunteers: our Site Coordinator is a 15+ year credentialed veteran teacher.
