HROC report on construction at the HROC Center
1.Introduction
AGLI-FPT has initiated the HROC Center activities of constructions! As shared last time, we are now glad that we were able to carry on with some of the constructions. See attached pictures.
Picture 1: Front of the Hall, constructors mixing cement, and take it to the bath rooms are being constructed. Behind me is the main constructor, who have been there since we started this project. His name is Samuel, and he is helping so much with what material we have.
Picture 2: One of the two bath rooms inside the dormitory being constructed
Picture 3: Second bathroom is almost done. Toilet and bath materials are still missing
Picture 4: Outside dormitory(back).Way that takes trash from the bathrooms(Unfinished)
Picture 5: The ceiling at the dorm’s balcony.
2.Hopes and expectations
Hroc Rwanda expect and hoping to have this Center done. As it is progressing slowly, we wish to have the next HROC International Training taking place to the Center, and all participants and facilitators staying in it. We are hoping to have the Listening Room done, so that people who may require time and safety may find the place.
HROC in School visits Report 2: May - August 2020
1.Introductions
As planed, HROC Rwanda together with KIMONYI schools leaders and teachers, had the task of getting to visit pupils, parents/caregivers, in order to listen, sensitize, advocate and create the awareness of fighting against any kind of violence that may occur while kids are not at school. Together with the Sector Education Officer (SEO), teachers were divided into groups according to where schools and pupils are located.
2.Success stories (done)
1. One pregnant primary school girl said “I felt I won't go back to school because I am pregnant, but because you tell me that I still have the chance to go back, I am now ready. I really want to go to school”. Thank you for visiting me."
See attached photos.
Photo 6: SEO and a HROC facilitator, listening to the children, and let them share with her about the life of “staying at home”. “We just want to go back to school” ”We are tired of the heavy work from home,” said the pupils.
Picture 7: Teacher who benefited from HROC basic workshop meet the pupils and talking to them. Its hard for them to stay at home, even if it is a rule to prevent the infection of covid-19 and its spread out.
Picture 8: Teacher and a HROC beneficiary visiting pupils from their home. “We don’t hope to return to school. We are afraid of getting married before the school starts again,” said the pupils visited.
Picture 9: And the SEO (Sector Education Officer), who is standing to the front, her name is Christine, a HROC facilitator, happened to gather some parents/caregivers, and talk to each other about the kids, their coming back to school, and continue to treat them nonviolently, reminding them about the child ‘rights.
3.Challenges
1. Some families stay far from where schools are. Reaching them take time or requires other help such as transportation fee.
2. Many parents are not home, and spend most of the day away, looking for food for their children. Its hard and takes one’s patience to meet them.
3. Few of parents admitted that they won't take their children back to school
4.Recommendations
1.If possible continue this campaign until schools start.
2. Going back to the parents who think the children should not go back to school.
3. Getting more skills such as conflict resolution (AVP) for the teachers to get information that may help themselves, and help the people whom they are listening too, especially when it comes to CONFLICTS
5. A thank you
Together, we hope to bring HOPE to the Hopeless!
We thank you GlobalGiving for the support to this work. It is bringingin live positive change to the Community!
Thank you.
