Passos da Crianca is founded in 2004. It is located in Vila Torres, where people are daily confronted to poverty, drug abuse and violence. The project welcomes 60 children living in conditions of social vulnerability. It gives them access to many activities such as capoeira, brazilian percussions, among others - and food, before or after school. The children, surrounded by a team of educators, social psychologists, social workers, and volunteers find in Passos a safe place dedicated to them.
The challenge is to renovate part of the building's facilities, and continue to welcome children in a better conditions, and Improve the quality of care to direct and indirect beneficiaries (the children, their families and the community). Ensure spaces of reference for group, community and social interaction and the development of relationships of affection, solidarity and mutual respect, as well as stimulating and strengthen the protagonism, autonomy and citizen participation of the users.
From Monday to Thursday, Passos attends children from 5 to 14 years old during their free time and provides them food and activities. Different workshops are organized weekly, according to a long-term project of child development. Actions with families have also been settled up. Children bring a bit of joy to the community with percussions shows. It is in the same time a true way for them to express themselves and to be a part of it.
The children are the future of Vila Torres. Giving them affection, access to education, arts and sports will therefore have a real impact on this community of more than 7 000 people. More, it is the opportunity for 60 children and their families to open up to develop themselves and to follow their dreams.
