Part of Girl Effect Challenge Once Again!

Thank you for all you have contributed towards AIL’s goal of educating the adolescent girls of Afghanistan. While the conditions in Afghanistan are still challenging, AIL is seeing positive changes in the lives of those Afghans that it works with.

We are excited to let you know that our project has once again been selected to participate in GlobalGiving’s Girl Effect Challenge. What is the Girl Effect? It’s the ripple effect that helping one girl can have throughout the girl’s community. It’s helping to stop a life of poverty by educating the girl when she’s young. (For more information on the Girl Effect campaign, visit the month of November, GlobalGiving is holding a challenge for projects like ours that help adolescent girls. The six projects with the highest number of unique donors will receive increased funding and support from GlobalGiving for one year.

How can you help? Tell your friends about the work that AIL is doing and encourage them to visit our project page themselves. Share our page on twitter, facebook, pinterest or any other social media site that would help spread the word about the great work that AIL continues to do for adolescent girls. Here are some statistics to help as you spread the word:

Through August of 2012, in education programs alone,  AIL has…

…educated 1,126 adolescent girls in trainings on topics ranging from health to leadership to job skills.
…educated 7,209 females in learning centers and schools, over half of whom were adolescent girls.

We’d like to share a quick quote from of the girl’s taking classes at one of AIL’s Women’s Learning Centers. She says, “My name is Pariqul and I’m taking Literacy classes at this WLC. Our area has many problems with security, but we want an education despite these problems. I want to thank everyone in the AIL organization for the help that they give us to achieve our goals.”

Don’t forget!  The holidays are a great time to share your passion for AIL and the great work that they do! GlobalGiving offers gift certificates which can be used to donate to AIL’s projects. Also, beginning December 1st, the initial donation made by recurring donors will be matched 100% by GlobalGiving. There is only $25,000 available in matching funds, so help AIL take advantage of this opportunity early!
