Challenge

Climate distress affects our children deeply. Climate change issues impact mental health and disproportionately harms youth; APA reports 47% of ages 18-34 say the stress they feel about climate change negatively affects their daily lives. Six in ten teens (61%) say climate change feels urgent. Teens report strong levels of fear, anger, and helplessness with few resources available to navigate them. How can we support youth suffering from climate change related isolation, despair, and grief?

Solution

Let's teach our children how to navigate climate grief and build a supportive context for growth. Green13 POP-UP is a free digital kit of activities grounded in research addressing 5 factors kids need for climate grief coping: 1. Open conversations about climate crisis in a safe environment 2. Practice skills to navigate big feelings 3. Grow resiliency to increase wellbeing & lower suicide risk 4. Inspire activation steps to boost self-empowerment 5. Gather youth voices to foster connections

Long-Term Impact

POP-UP Festival is the #1 emotional intelligence program reaching youth worldwide. Green13 POP-UP, will support 5 million people to participate in climate action awareness activities to increase climate resilience for kids. Led by volunteers, POP-UP festivals are free, use low cost materials and can be adapted to local audiences. POP-UPs help kids reach SDG #13 by developing climate resilience to support their wellbeing. Powered by their emotions, kids build capacity to take climate action!
